huawei e 173 unlocking method.
huawei e 173 supplied by airtel comes pre configured. you can unlock it to use it with any sim as you wish. the procedure to unlock e 173 is simple.
first you need to update the firmware of huawei e 173. download the firmware update from here
- Password for rar file is ‘freetrics’
- double click the file to launch the e 173 updater.
- accept the terms and conditions for e 173 updater.
- e 173 updater window will now start searching for device.
- when you click next a warning window appears.
- click start.
- make sure that your battery backup is full while updating your e 173.
- now in some cases it may ask you for the password.
- to generate flash code password for huawei e 173 follow these steps.
- download the huawei e 173 code generator software from here.
- Password for rar file is ‘freetrics’
- type in the iemi number of your e 173 modem.
- click generate.
- you will get two codes in the box one is unlock code and the other is flash code.
- copy the 8 digit flash code, marked with red ellipse.
- this 8 digit flash code is the password for the e 173 updater.
now you can enter this password and and update your firmware to an unlocked version. and enjoy using your huawei e 173 modem with any of the service provider you want. for unlocking e 173 in this method you don’t need to change the sim to another provider to unlock, you can change the sim once the update is finished. this method of unlocking is useful for those whom the normal sim changing method produces error message as “only the specified sim/usim card can be used on the device”. this method works for sure and i have done it myself on airtel e 173 modem

It should show up as a USB stick under my computer, just delete the files stored on there.
I try with all trick to unlock my idea e173du-1 netsetter. But all fails. I try with CDMA workshop and e1732 downgrade process also but after finishing none sim detected and so i again upgrade to old locked version. Also sola gsm not work and if try this ulock uuwaei e173 modem with e173 firmware update it also shows eroor-” ” the wireless terminal inserted is not firmware, update wizard can’t work on ”.

Now let me tell u how to use it first let it install safaricom dashboard software and after install remove the modem and insert the foreign sim and insert the modem back to the computer now safaricom dashboard software will open close it completely even close it from the taskbar.
now open huawei unlocker that u downloaded
1)select the COM PORT.
2)In the SELECT MODEL type E173
3)ENTER THE IMEI NUMBER OF E173 modem
4)Click Calculate
5)now on the right side there is unlock modem select it.
6)Then click on SERVICE below
7)if first try fails repeat step from “5)”
then thats it ur modem is unlocked
BUT ONE PROBLEM ONCE YOU REMOVE THE MODOU NEED TO REPEAT THESE PROCESSES EVERY TIME YOU CONNECT THE MODEM
I WILL KEEP UPDATING IF I FIND ANYTHING ELSE PERMANENT

I bought a Huawei e173 in Croatie last summer from T-Mobile. I unlocked it with only the “Universal Mastercode” tool. In this case you still need to use the T-Mobile software provided with/on the stick. But this software is usable also for other telecom providers if you know the settings… (use the google o matic).

brother it can be unlocked by sola gsm calc. but you have to change the sim before unlocking it. if you want to switch to docomo. insert docomo sim and use the above procedure

network problem mostly. you can confirm by putting the sim in some other mobile phone and check the speed. solution is to use the fastest network available in your locality
Hi.I download This both the application Updater and Code generator.Then what i did was too run the Huwaei updater and it asked me for pw.So i did not know what to do.Then i let it finish what it was doing.After that i just ran the code master and it gave me a flash code.Now when i realised what i was supposed to do first and went and ran updater its not responding.So that means my modem is not unlocked>What should i do??I m still using it.Any other option.

i’m stuck with this problem. I tried many times with SOLA GSM Calc v.0.4. Unlock succeed, but when i unplug the modem and i plugged again into pc/laptop. the modem back to locked!

I have exactly this issue as well. It’s a Huawei E173s-1 (Vodafone branded) – I’m using E173Update_11.126.85.00.114_B427.exe file. At the “Start update” picture it says “Current version 21.023.05.00.35″, “Target version 11.126.85.00.114″, “Download mode Normal Download”.
I need to have Voice enabled and dc-unlocker says “Voice feature: not supported in current firmware”.
I have tried a Windows 7 and a Windows XP laptop – same error in both cases.

We happened to me too, but after I started Mobile Partner, I did settings (APN, user, password) and introduced the unlock code, then everything worked great.
Hi, I have downloaded “E173Update_11.126.85.00.209_B427.zip” ran the exe file within it. it comes up telling me that the the source version isnt compatible with the target version but also asks me for the password.

My modem is locked to Safaricom Kenya too, I followed all the steps in this threads concerning Huawei E173u-1 but updates for a short while then shows an error. On subsequent update without removing the modem, it identifies the modem with a Imei Error, cant update. I downloaded the files as instructed and followed the instructions correctly.

Following all the steps but ended up with the error message “Update Failure”.
I noticed the error should be from the update program was not able to download the updated firmware as I saw the status is “downloading programs” and suddenly the “Update Failure” message came out. My internet connection is very good.
Is there away that you send the firmware and make it available offline? So the updated program can get it and flash into the modem.

i think you have done some mistakes.the simple way to unlock connect the your dongle with Mobile partner and let it few minutes to connect automatically,most probably it will not connect then you try to connect pressing the connect button.Then it will ask enter the unlock code.you can get all codes for match to the your dongle by searching the internet with your dongle IMEI number.

speed on gprs (2g) is 144 kbps. that is you get a maximum speed of 18 kBps when downloading and uploading. and on edge it can be upto 30 to 40 kBps. kbps and kBps are different. when you download using mozille firefox or any software speed is shown in kBps. but airtel software shows speed in kbps. you can convert kbps to kBps by dividing it by 8. 256 kbps means 256/8=32 kBps. hope you get me. the maximum speed you can have is 30 to 40 kBps if you are using 2g on a edge network

OK I have a safaricom E173 it has a customised firmware and hence could not be unlocked but one can use HUAWEI UNLOCKER this is the link http://www.multiupload.com/8119E1DC7D
Now let me tell u how to use it first let the modem install safaricom dashboard software and after install remove the modem and insert the foreign sim and insert the modem back to the computer now safaricom dashboard software will open close it completely even close it from the taskbar.
now open huawei unlocker that u downloaded
1)select the COM PORT.
2)In the SELECT MODEL type E173
3)ENTER THE IMEI NUMBER OF E173 modem
4)Click Calculate
5)now on the right side there is unlock modem select it.
6)Then click on SERVICE below
7)if first try fails repeat step from “5)”
then thats it ur modem is unlocked
BUT ONE PROBLEM ONCE YOU REMOVE THE MODEM YOU NEED TO REPEAT THESE PROCESSES EVERY TIME YOU CONNECT THE MODEM
I WILL KEEP UPDATING IF I FIND ANYTHING ELSE PERMANENT

I m using e 173, which is already unlocked by huawei… but after 50 to 60 minits it automatically disconnects.. what should i do????
try changing your network to wcdma only or edge only. disconnection may be due to change in network connection mode
network is GSM Preferred..
sometimes it comes wcdma, sometimes edge and sometimes it comes HSPA…
make it gsm only or wcdma only. when you use prefered it keeps switching between networks. if you have good coverage for wcdma. i suggest you using that. make is wcdma only.

I guess i have found the way to unlock it, I bought a card that has firmware 21.017.09.00.266 I did the steps that are in this link but I received the error message
” the wireless terminal inserted is not firmware, update wizard can’t work on ”
So what I notice according to the research is that datacards with firmware 11.x went sucessful with the procedure on this website, but the ones with firmware 21.x …. are not able to perform the firmware upgrade. Guess due to a mismatch or something so what I did was using the software (mobile partner version that comes with the unit) just insert the new sim, and setup the profile. Try to connect and i will show prompt you for the UNLOCK code that can be retrieved from the universal mastercode.

Pls disconnect your internet ,close the other programs and then continue. Also check whether your local area connection is enabled which you are using by opening the network connections

sir..i use a e173u-2 usb modem,buy it from celcom malaysia..after a few weeks i decide to unlock the modem to use it with my maxis simcard.the process is ok,with no problem,then when i update the dashboard from celcom broadband manager to mobile partner,the signal status bar not appear,i edit the networking setting by follow the original setting but nothing happen,still no signal,the modem and the simcard detect,green light blinking..i delete the mobile partner and install the celcom broadband manager again cause i think maybe its a software problem,but it still no signal, but when i look at diagnostics page something different information between the original,the network name unknown,my own number unknown,and my device change the name from e173 to m6290..what is really happen sir?my simcard got no problem because i test it on my phone and can connect to internet without any problem,

I have tried all methods listed here for unlocking including installing dashbord sf first and then trying the update but i get same update error, sometimes the update is not compatible with my modem. Hey Admin, I am much thankful that it helped me unlock my Airtel USB dongle e173Bu-1 without much problem. But my connection is 3G, and maybe I was stupid to try the method. Now after the firmware update, I am getting 2G speeds with the same SIM (I did not remove it at all) . :’( Please help me. I would rather switch back to the default firmware that came with this device, but I don’t know how to. Please help me for God’s sake.
I did want to unlock my modem only to use it with my micromax funbook. Even that doesn’t work now. I just want to switch back to my good old 3G firmware. Please reply in earnest.
there is nothing wrong about the firmware. just go the settings and change the network preference to wcdma only. and wait till the indicator light blinks blue. then connect. i think that will solve the problem. please try it and reply

But one thing still bothers me. Even after I have this datacard unlocked, my funbook crashes again and again after I plug it into my device. I have tried changing SIMS, but to no avail.

On the second checking however, the download speed is still well below 100 kbps, while it used to be around 450 kbps. To be honest, I use Ubuntu Linux 12.04 and in here I can’t find anything related to WCDMA. I initially used my Windows 7 installation (which I use rarely) to change the settings to WCDMA, but I guess the same problem continues for Ubuntu Linux. Previously everything was okay…

thanks for the wonderful feedback. try reinstalling the drivers for your modem. try a different port if available. install drivers. remove the modem and reinsert. and wait for the system to detect the modem automatically and then connect. i hope that solves the problem

you must uninstall and then again install the dashboard. and make sure you have exited the dashboard before running the updater. and try the firmware update again. if still the problem persists try to unlock it from another pc. your case is mostly driver related.

Hi mr admin…i got one problem…i bought a huawei e173 modem from a friend and he said that its alredy unlocked…but as i used it, it asked for password. so i did all of the procedures to unlock the modem. Before i did the procedures, i still able to connect to internent using one of my two internet simcard. After i unlocked the modem, i couldnt connect to the internet for both simcard. It shows the message ” You cant connect before register to available network”…do you have solution for this? Or maybe do you have the method to reset the modem to its default setting? I had used the DCCRAP application and usename/pwd free/voice and tried unlocking… got the message “Unlocked successfully”. When I again searched for my device use the same app, the status still showed it was still locked. So I tried the other way of updating the firmware but that didn’t work either. With all the knowledge that you have shared here. I found a new and simple way of unlocking..Airtel E1731….
1. I downloaded mobile partner from your page. http://www.freetrics.com/free-tricks/huawei-mobile-partner-connect-free-download/
2. I had had the unlock code generator software UniversalMastercode.exe. I generated my unlock code.
3. I removed my Airtel sim from the device and inserted Aircel Sim. Inserted it into my laptop and ran Mobile Partner App. Now it poped up with window saying. “Device Locked” “Enter Unlock Code”. I entered the Unlock code generated in the step 2.
4. Now my device recognized my Aircel sim with in 30 seconds.
5. This way… Its not needed to update the firmware or run any special app to unlock it. All you need is an unlock code which we can easily get using the above mentioned app. Flash code is not required either.

i have unlocked two huawei 173-u1 dongle with the help of ur posts
but now i have another e173u-1
after successful firmware update ( higher than existing one) i am still getting error message
“Only specified SIM/USIM card can be Used on the device”
what can i do now
note that i have already updated into latest one successfully

hello admin i have E173u-81, it was from ENTEL PCS, I unluncked it, now i can use diferent sim cards on it , but when i put sim card from MOVISTAR, it get just 2G (edge o gprs)signal , what can I do?, can I get 3G with movistar?, please help me

The firmupdate worked well, all ‘telephone company brand’ flashed off the station.
The new gui from mobile partner has many networks already pre-installed, is nice.

My issue now is that whenever I try to open USSD code option to check my GPRS balance, it says “OLE initialisation failed. Make sure that the OLE libraries are the correct version.” What should I do now to prevent the same from happening and to check my balance??

Thanks, this unlock modem is the best gift for my GF. After unlock and install Mobile Partner for calling become one problem. Modem don´t read SIM. I install drivers from original Mobile Partner software. (open file data on install medium with rar program, than find directory in RAR program – DATA, dubleclick on files driversetup and devsetup32 or 64) Thank you very much.

it says that
“The data card can`t be found. Error code 3
One Of the following reasons may cause the error:
a. The data card is not properly connected to PC.
b. Other program is using the data card.
c. You do not have the authority of the administrator.
why doesnt work for me sir?…

Please, help me! My modem sent data ohne my control. I have a firewall. I controll all sent data from PC. I seeon firewall, that from PC don´t sent any programs data. I see on statistic in Mobile partner data comunication when I close web browser. No control data comunication is 30s. I think, that my modem sent data awey and I don´t no where. I unlock my huawei E173 modem, then it worked fine. Then I found a dashboard update for huawei and from that it gives original mobile partner software. After I did the upgrade it says data card can not recognized. Then i connect to my other laptop but it works but now with my unlocked laptop. Please helpppp
