Increase speed of your wireless 3g internet modem.

Tweak the speed of your 3g internet modem.

Do you have idea netsetter or aircel turbo 3g or docomo 3g modem? Are you using the maximum out of it. Those who pay for idea netsetter aircel turbo 3g and similar 3g modems must make sure that they are getting maximum performance for what they are paying. Lets see if you can increase the speed of your idea netsetter. Here are the steps that may help you increase the speed of your 3g wireless modem dongle like idea netsetter. What if you are paying for 3g network tariff and all you are getting is 2g speed. Yes it can happen and it happened to me when i was a beginner as the user of idea 3g netsetter. This same issue can happen on any network like airtel, aircel, vodafone, idea, docomo, reliance gsm etc. It works  n any huawei modem with whichever network on it. What really happened in my case is a minute change in the settings. So you can make sure that you are using your wireless internet through modem worth of what you pay by these simple steps. This is not a trick. All you need to do is know what is the correct settings for maximum speed for internet connection and use the right settings.

Why 3g modem speed goes low.

In the dashboard setting of any of the above mentioned service modems there is an option for choosing the network type. You can set your preferred network type in the dashboard connection settings to connect internet through wireless modem. In there there are mainly four settings listed in.

  • wcdma preferred
  • wcdma only
  • gsm preferred
  • gsm only

What does these settings mean and how can they help increase internet speed of modems?

The terms in the dashboard of idea netsetter and other dongles network settings are listed below. And each term is explained. Hope this will help you increase the speed of your wireless 3g internet, if you are accessing internet through the modem

wcdma preferred: option chooses to use 3g network to connect to internet with increased speed whenever a 3g network is available, if 3g connectivity is absent then it will connect to the normal low speed 2g network. so while you are traveling this is the option.

Wcdma only: if you are using this option then it will use wcdma network only. it means it will give you 3g network with increased speed only. If no 3g high speed network is available then the connection will be terminated. this can be useful in areas where 3g and 2g networks keep fluctuating. that means the modem accesses 2g and 3g network intermediately giving frequent disconnection and fluctuation in speed.

we recommend you use any of these network only if your primary intention is increasing speed alone.

gsm only: this settings can cause your wireless dongle to access 2g network alone. if you are getting very low 3g signal and very good 2g network then this will be an option for you. since you can browse internet without frequent disconnection. but remember if you are using this network type then never recharge for 3g as you would not get 3g speed in this settings. recharge with 2g plans alone .

gsm preferred: this setting is pretty useless. it accesses 2gf network even if increased speed 3g is available.

Even if you are using a 2g plan you can choose 3g network to access internet through 3g network, but the speed may not n=be as 3g . if you are using 2g plan in a 3g network you will get a capped speed of 2g which is far better than using original 2g network. I hope you are clear of all those terms you see on idea netsetter dashboard and what they are meant for. The settings are the same for all networks gsm modem dongles. Hope you increased the speed of you idea netsetter and similar modems from huawei.
