yes airtel has launched 4g in india. at the initial state the 4g service is available only in kolkata and bangalore circles. the speed of 4g is theorotically 100 mbps, which is far far more than the highest 3g speed which is 21 mbps maximum. the tariff plans introduced by airtel isnt that attractive. or you can even call it uselsess. but hope it will get cheaper sooner or later. to access 4g you must have a 4g enabled handset. you can buy 4g dongle usb modem from airtel to access 4g wireless broadband on your pc. the device cost is also too high for normal users. i think airtel wants people to just experience 4g rather than using it. the connection will be best suited for high definition media streaming and online multiplayer gaming. you can just forget about the phenomenon of buffering.

the maximum attainable speed is dependent on the number of simultaneous users accessing 4g.  to use 4g service you have to get a new 4g sim from airtel. airtel has presented two types of modem dongles for4g data access which are single mode device and multi mode device

single mode device: device can access and work only on 4g network, if no 4g network is available the device remains idle and unusable

multi mode device: multimode device supports 4g ,3g,and 2g. so it automatically connects to the fastest connection available. and also you can make calls and send sms from multimode device, which is not possible with the single mode device

ill appreciate everything in 4g, but for now cost is too much and there is no voice calling capability and sms capability on airtel 4g. in such high speeds 30 gb is not enough. which comes at a price for 2999. atleast 50 gb should be offered
